These "favorites" lists seem to be popular thread topics in all the other tribes, so I thought I'd start one here. My absolute favorite designer is Alexander McQueen, and that's mostly what I wear when I go out. I've always been "alternative" since my early teens, and I grew into a huge McQueen fan after his first hard-edged, punk- and goth-inspired collections. I was a huge Gaultier fan starting in high school and through the '90s until I switched to McQueen. Gaultier was so creative, and then when he started doing haute couture in '97 he stopped doing his own ready-to-wear collections (or am I not supposed to tell anyone that?) his collections went way downhill. He used to be the hottest French designer for over a decade, and now he's considered a relatively minor designer, which is sad. I also love women's Comme des Garcons, since I really like creative, avant-garde designers. And rounding out the top three would be vintage Stephen Sprouse. I think he was really underrated back in the day, which is a shame. I was into Galliano menswear for one season (Fall '04), but I'm kind of over it now. And I was on a Dries Van Noten kick for a few seasons there, but I'm over that, too. I started McQueen, CdG, and Sprouse tribes if anyone's interested. I have to do some work on them first, though. So who are your favorite designers?

Re: Favorite designers?
Fri, November 4, 2005 - 5:33 PMi used to pour over my mom's fashion magazines as a little girl. Emanuel Ungaro at the time was my absolute favorite. i wanted everything he made. as i got into high school i went through this Betsey Johnson phase: wild, colorful and naughty.....oh and Cristian Lacroix, i thought it was great someone new was doing couture. now i really LOVE Miuccia Prada and Nicolas Ghesquiere (i just splurged on 2 Balenciaga bags for my birthday yesterday!!!). Marc Jacobs..sometimes yes, sometimes no....i will always adore Dior that never changes.....
i always like what designers do for other lines but never their own, case in point: i liked what Stella did for Chole, but i don't really vibe on her own stuff. i loved what KL did for Chanel but i don't like at all his own line. Marc Jacobs for LV fantastic...his own stuff (see above)
i too was a huge Gaultier fan...McQueen is a boy genius.... oh and i musn't forget Azzedine Alaia back in the 80's!
i look forward to seeing what Stefano does with YSL!
(just for kicks and giggles: i can frequently be seen in trendy juicy couture)

Re: Favorite designers?
Mon, November 7, 2005 - 10:09 AMI feel you on the Juicy Couture. My "thing" is wearing a black t-shirt, usually with some '80s hair metal band on it that time has forgotten, dark denim Levi's, black Chuck Taylors, and some fancy label-whore jacket. Although it's getting a little predictable...

Gaultier is a constant for me- I will always find genius in something that he does.
Yohji Yamamoto- my brain exploded when I visited his Paris store.
I like pieces-parts from lots of designers' collections, though. McQueen, Galliano, Prada, And good old Karl. -
